COMMON FAILURES

Knocking over bumps

A sharp noise when going over a bump or a speed hump often comes from play in the suspension or the steering.

Possible causes

01

Track rod end or ball joint

A ball joint or a stabiliser rod with play produces a knock on every uneven surface.

02

Shock absorber at end of life

A shock absorber that no longer damps the spring lets the body bounce and can cause a jolt at the end of travel.

03

Bushings and mounts

Cut or hardened rubber lets parts knock against each other, especially when cold.

The body bounces hard after a bump, the vehicle rolls or holds its line poorly: have it checked without delay.
